Goldman Sachs is co-developing with Anthropic AI agents to automate a growing number of roles within the bank, especially in two specific areas: transactions and accounting for trades, and client vetting and onboarding.

These digital co-workers will be launch soon, said Marco Argenti, Goldman’s chief information officer.

In October 2025, Goldman Sachs CEO, David Solomon, said the his bank was embarking on a 10 year plan to reorganize itselft around generative AI.

Since last year, Goldman Sach engineers are broadly using AI coder Devin along with Anthropic’s Claude, characterized for its ability to reason through complex problems, step-by-step, applying logic.

Besides coding, Claude is being tested in areas like accounting and compliance that combine the need to parse large amounts of data and documents while applying rules and judgment.

“The view within Goldman is that there are these other areas of the firm–like employee surveillance or making investment banking pitchbooks—where we could expect the same level of automation and the same level of results that we’re seeing on the coding side,” said Marco Argenti.

“As AI technology matures, Goldman can cut out third-party providers it uses today”, he added.

“We’re injecting capacity which in most cases will allow us to do things faster, with a better client experience and more business.”
